Samba on FreeBSD 6.x - failed to connect to FAM service

Some mysterious lines in a samba logfile.
This occurs when using a win2k client trying to create a directory in a subfolder of a samba share on FreeBSD.

Socket directory /tmp/fam-root has different owner
Failed to remove unsafe path /tmp/fam-root
[2006/08/14 06:17:00, 0] smbd/notify_fam.c:fam_check_reconnect(136)
failed to connect to FAM service

p5 (-IPADDRESS_REMOVED-) closed connection to service ops

All I've deduced so far as that FAM is probably the "File Alteration Monitor".
(and that I've probably got my samba permissions horribly wrong somewhere)

update1
Well.. apparently i didn't even have FAM installed.. let alone running.
% /usr/ports/devel/fam/ make install
oops..
===> fam-2.6.9_6 conflicts with installed package(s):
gamin-0.1.7_2
ok.. Theres a thread on the fam vs gamin thing here: http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-ports/2006-January/029130.html
I think I'll go for the fully featured 'fam' version for now.

%portupgrade -o devel/fam gamin
Then.. made the adjustments as described in /usr/ports/devel/fam/pkg-message to enable rpcbind and to start fam from inetd
After all that.. I'm still not able to access my folder from win2k.. but at least the fam errors don't seem to be appearing in the logs anymore.

Fixed.. I'd simply forgotten that 'read only' defaults to Yes.
Added "read only = no" to the appropriate share.
Oh well.. the diversion into 'fam' was interesting. Not yet sure what it gains me though.
New files don't seem to appear any faster than they do for other samba machines I have where there is no fam daemon running..
